Domain Work Fields

A domain-type work field assumes the attributes that are defined for any type of domain in the same or an outside application. To use an assumed value from a domain definition, leave the specification blank. The Domain-Type Work field Specifications overlays, such as the ones shown in Figures 2-5-4 and 2-5-8, automatically display after you complete the entries on the Work fields specifications screen if the Field Type you select is DOMAIN. Figure 2-5-4 displays if the domain type is alpha, format, text, token, date, or logic. Figure 2-5-8 displays if the domain type is NUMERIC.

The following fields are contained on the Domain Type Work field Specifications overlay for Alpha, Format, Text, Token, Date, and Logic Domain-Type Work fields:

·     Domain Name links a domain-type work field to a specific domain in the same or another APPX application.

·     Descriptive provides a longer, more easily understood alternative to Field Name, one that is not required to be unique within an application. If blank at all default levels, Field Name is used. Because Descriptive is less cryptic and can be more flexibly formatted than Field Name, it is easier to under-stand. As a result, the system uses Descriptive when communicating with users. Descriptive is used, for example, when the value of a field displays to a user on a standard image, such as the Select Access Path display or an APPX-generated subheading. We suggest that you use a singular entry for Descriptive, and avoid appending the word “field”.

·     Column Hdgs designates up to two lines of column heading text. The APPX output process facility uses this text to generate standard column heading images for Start of Page and Start of Range class frames. For cosmetic reasons, the length of headings should not exceed the length of a field itself. Refer to Standard Column Heading Image for additional information.

The Domain Type Work field Specification overlays for Alpha, Format, Text, Token, Date, and Logic Domains contain the option Additional Attributes described in the next section.
